I am fascinated by symbolism and mythology, and pictures as a language that is decoded piece by piece, person by person, day by day. I love puzzles and revel in the flashes of insight that come with concentrated, intense curiosity.
While I enjoy close, detailed observation, I feel my true work is the symbolic translation of my own experiences, both physical and spiritual. I like my drawings to be accessible--able to be appreciated for their own aesthetic qualities, but also rich with meaning and intention.
I work in a variety of media, including:
- Pen
- Colored pencil
- Soft pastel
- Charcoal
- Watercolor
- Oil
I'm also a budding web designer! This page was my guinea pig and is currently being overhauled (so please don't mind the mess in the source code). Visit my Contact page for links to my other projects.
I've had the opportunity to work with a number of artists who have given me technical skills, inspiring theories and ideas, and personal guidance and support:
Also, Kathleen Scott (sumi painting), Lois Schroff (veil watercolor painting) and Dennis Crabapple McClain (science fiction illustration).
